Discover Wealth
Thousands of books have been written and programs implemented to teach interested
people how to gain wealth. Any walk down the aisles of the neighborhood book store will yield dozens of materials aimed at the latest scheme to achieve material riches. Many of our magazine racks overflow with financial management magazines and newspapers. We check our stock and mutual funds with regularity to assess the strength of our portfolios. The pursuit of wealth pervades many of our lives.
Despite this cultural focus on the pursuit of wealth many of our lives are bankrupt. We often live in emotional isolation with few outlets to share our joys or our frustrations. Oftentimes, we struggle to find spiritual meaning in the successes and failures that we endure. Many have few trustworthy persons with whom they can be vulnerable. In the midst of a seemingly endless search for riches, we are often left with nothing that really matters. The bible gives us numerous examples of the futility that lies at the end of the struggle for earthly riches. From the riches of King Solomon to that of the rich young ruler in Matthew 13, the biblical imperative is to understand the meaning of true wealth.
DFI has developed the Discovering Wealth program to serve five distinct yet interrelated purposes:
- Understanding the basics of financial management (saving, investing, and spending)
- Learning how to make your money work for you rather than you being a slave to it
- Recognizing how true wealth leverages finances to build service relationships with those in need
- Teaching couples how to negotiate differences of opinion regarding money matters to become financial partners
- Discovering the value of your marital wealth
Family research shows that financial difficulty is among the primary causes of marital separation and divorce. Regardless of your current level of financial acumen, the Discover Wealth initiative aims to transform your thinking about finances from liabilities to liberation.
